I think it is great for networking as you have said. One thing that I have not done though is adding a bunch of random people. I decided that I will try and keep my Twitter account a bit cleaner with people whom I know relatively well (or at least I have seen them around the sphere before). This may however change in the future, dependant on the dynamics of things. It is really great that you can check out what other people are doing almost in real time. I also enjoy as you said, seeing what the outspoken individuals have to say. Twitter is truly a great service.
